Candid in Color

“Now ever since I can remember I been poppin’ my collar”– Three 6 Mafia

My mom always popped her collar (she’s an interior designer and liked the added energy it added to a shirt); as a result I’ve liked a popped collar for as long as I can remember – in HS I had too many A&F polos to count, and I popped the collar on every one of them – it was good practice for the sorority life in college. And while it was a phase for most – for me, I still do it to this day. There’s something about how it makes an outfit a bit more interesting, shows that while you will wear the basics, you know how to make them more fun (also why I love scarves in the work world).

For more casual office days I love a good crisp button up, paired with dress pants, sans blazer. And depending on what the day brings I’ll often pop my collar and literally roll up my sleeves to get down to business.

Here I’ve paired a turquoise button up with my favorite summer linen dress pants. I’ve had the shirt since 2012 when I transitioned into mgmt consulting and needed additional work attire – love it for adding a bit of color to the more neutral classic basics. Also loved that it was cut so that it buttoned across the bust without then also being huge through the waist – Brooks Brothers makes great women’s dress shirts and I have several from them as a result. They claim to be non-iron though I still run an iron over them, but they do stay a lot less wrinkled as a result.

You can read about my belt, shoes, bag, and scarf in a few other posts.

Colorful Collar Pops can make business casual a bit more candid.

All my best,
