Capable and Cozy

When you want to be cozy but can’t just curl up and catnap because clients…. Best to make sure you remain looking capable.

There are days when you’re in the office, but don’t have any important in-person meetings. On those days I gravitate towards sweaters. Perfect when the weather is dreary, your office is freezing, or you’re feeling a bit run down.  It is completely possible to present a competent demeanor, just make sure to structure your wardrobe choices carefully.

If opting for a cardigan, pair it with tailored pants and blouse so that there is still a fitted and appropriate silhouette. Never wear more than one unstructured piece at once as that will result in looking slouchy and slobbish. And be conscious of shoe selection: a flat with a long sweater is going to be out of proportion, whereas a flat with a short cardigan can work well.

For this outfit I paired the same navy trousers from the last post with a silk sheath top I wear all the time. On a more formal day I could easily throw a gray blazer on instead (or bring one if I need to run to an in-person meeting). My sweater is new this season by Brown Allan. I found it this spring at a local boutique in Park City – Indigo Highway – on a buy one get one free end of season sale. Knew it would be an awesome addition to my wardrobe for work, travel days, and at home. I’ve already worn it a ton.

My shoes are my more spring/summer focused work heels – I bought them in 2012 and have had them resoled several times. Because of their platform, roomy toe box, and slightly thicker heel they are extremely comfortable, and easy to walk/stand in.

And my hair is in a ponytail as usually I’m wearing sweaters on fly days when I am having to pack in the morning before going on site, and I don’t have time, nor want to blow dry and style my hair. Plus, with a big sweater it gives a crisper look instead of being down and muddled with the oversized sweater structure.

Choose Cardigans on Cozy Days but Coordinate Pieces Considerately in Order to Come Across as Competent and Capable.

All my best,
