Crisp and Cool

Be crisp and cool to confer with your clients.

More daylight, fun weekends, hot temperatures – all make work seem more casual and as a result attire during the summer often loosens up (fabrics and colors). But on the days where you still have to be your most professional – opt for black with lighter fabrics.

Here I’ve paired my absolute favorite combination – black sheath dress with elegant and tailored blazer. While this is black sheath dress 2.0 (the OG finally died), I’ve worn this combination to countless important meetings over the years (regardless of season). The blazer has a linen look to it which allows it to work in summer months, but also has a sheen and because of its dark coloring transcends well into winter too – I found it years and years ago and it is my go to – it always looks great. For summer I typically ditch the hosiery (unless it’s a new and/or conservative client) and coat, for colder months it’s easy to swap heels for boots, add tights, scarf, coat and gloves.

The shoes are new this season – and I’m really excited about them! I’ve had the same classic black pumps since 2010 (they’ve been on every work trip since, and resoled many times), and while I continue to adore them, they have a rounded toe and red sole – felt like it was time for a pointed toe option that didn’t clash with some colors (the red can be tough to pair with pinks), also I don’t always want to go into certain situations overtly as most are now familiar with these bloody shoes – thx Cardi. So now, I have a second black heel option for the work rotation – given how much I’ve worn my others, I’m sure these will earn their value very quickly.

Clean lines, classic colors and crisp fabrics will keep you cool even in the heat of summer.

All my best,
