Striking Skills

Select a standout blazer to show off your strengths.
While most of the time I’m in subtle suits, sometimes it’s fun to pair simple separates with a striking blazer. Keeping the color pallette neutral maintains the sedate nature of the outfit, while giving energy to an otherwise staid outfit.
While I wouldn’t wear this blazer day one of meeting with a new client… I would wear it after I’d developed a rapport and established my specialties (and sense of style). On days I needed to be professional but had the latitude to be more fun than formal.
For this outfit I’ve paired a skirt (with pockets!) with a black sheath blouse, and this great snakeskin blazer. I got the blazer this summer, and I love it year around. For warmer weather pairing it with whites looks great, while in the winter (or for more formal days) partnering it with black provides a strong silhouette. To further show the jacket’s tailoring I elected to wear my hair in a soft bun. Sometimes I like it out of my face (but having it too slicked back can seem severe).
Don’t let the need to wear subdued colors detract from your ability to strut your significant skills. But don’t just rely on your style, continuously seek ways to sharpen your smarts.
All my best,
